mildly entertaining
Sometimes, I find american class rings at secondhand shops here, and they’re always priced well over £100.

“It is dreadful when something weighs on your mind, not to have a soul to...”
– Frederic Chopin (via quote-book) What a great quote.  Chopin is one of my favorite composers, and definitely one of my favorite ways to vent when I’ve got something on my mind.  I miss having a piano.  It’s one of the only things I left behind that I consistently long for.

Sometimes, I miss Blockbuster.
I was pretty excited about Netflix coming to the UK, but after a few weeks of trying it out, I  feel like the selection is really pretty poor, particularly when compared with the US version.  I guess there must be licensing issues.  But it’s also lacking a feature to queue up things you’d like to watch later (which exists in the US site) and that I can blame wholly on them, right?...

eyefood: American soldiers coming into Sainte-Mère-Élise, 1944. Eyefood (aka, Mr. Tea, aka my husband) is really into old photographs.  He’s become a bit obsessed with going to the places they were taken and shooting a copy of the scene as it stands today, for comparison.  He has a lot of them over on his website, eyefood.co.uk.  He did this one while we were in France last week....

new kitties, dawwww
Today at the animal shelter a seven month old black-and-white kitty with tiny paws adopted my husband, refusing to get out of his arms or take a break from head-butting him.  And then her tortoise colored sister adopted me, which turns out to be just fine because the shelter doesn’t want to split them up.  I hope my little old man dog enjoys his last two weeks of being lord of the manor,...

We took my family to the roman fort at Hard Knott last night.  The road up the mountain is so steep and zig-zags, and if it rains even a bit, it becomes pretty impassable.  We got lucky though - it was cold and windy in the Lakes yesterday, but it was also sunny and dry.  You could see all the way to the Isle of Man, which is pretty astounding.  I never get tired of mountains and sheep.   ...

My sister has decided that british M&Ms taste different from american M&Ms.  I have never noticed (I don’t eat a lot of candy) but this wouldn’t be the first item where this has happened.  I always notice it most with taco seasoning.  Even if you buy the same brand (El Paso or whatever) in the same package, the british kind tastes more like curry than hot peppers.  The heat is...
