I know I’ve been pretty quiet lately. I needed a break after my last visit home. It’s so weird, the way you expect upon moving overseas that the local people will be the ones who treat you like poop, when my personal experience has shown that it’s actually the people you left who usually commit the grandest discriminations. The local people are nice to me.
Last weekend, I had a blast performing in Carmina Burana. I know opera isn’t for everyone but it’s hard to believe anyone could not get into THIS opera, with all of its sex, drinking and comedy. There’s a whole song where people yell “Bullshit!” (Wafna!) over and over. I mean, COME ON! :) I got to sing in the coro piccolo (tiny choir), where we sang songs about luring young men into our reach with our rosy cheeks.
It has been incredibly good for me to stretch my voice again after giving it up for so long. I found notes I thought I’d lost forever. I never know how to explain to people what it feels like to really make music straight from the gut. It’s like turning into a
little tiny great big bird and flying away.
