I know I’ve been pretty quiet lately.  I needed a break after my last visit home.  It’s so weird, the way you expect upon moving overseas that the local people will be the ones who treat you like poop, when my personal experience has shown that it’s actually the people you left who usually commit the grandest discriminations.  The local people are nice to me.

Last weekend, I had a blast performing in Carmina Burana.  I know opera isn’t for everyone but it’s hard to believe anyone could not get into THIS opera, with all of its sex, drinking and comedy.  There’s a whole song where people yell “Bullshit!”  (Wafna!) over and over.  I mean, COME ON!  :)  I got to sing in the coro piccolo (tiny choir), where we sang songs about luring young men into our reach with our rosy cheeks.

It has been incredibly good for me to stretch my voice again after giving it up for so long.  I found notes I thought I’d lost forever.  I never know how to explain to people what it feels like to really make music straight from the gut.  It’s like turning into a little tiny great big bird and flying away.

nostrich: Your Updated Travel Itinerary → tumblr.quisby.net

March 23rd

12:50 GMT: Board your flight to Atlanta.

18:50 EDT: Arrive in Atlanta.

19:30 EDT: After 40 minutes in line, make it to border control.

19:31 EDT: Get sent to secondary questioning.

21:00 EDT: Start wondering if you’ll be seen before your flight to Indianapolis leaves.

21:50 EDT:…

Gah!  Ack!  I’m so sorry!

I’m sorry to hear that people are still spreading the fallacy that you can “reset” your tourist visa just by leaving a country overnight and returning a day or two later.  People used to tell me this when I lived in Spain, too.  “Just go to Morocco for the weekend,” was frequently heard, but this is NOT true.  I think when I came to the UK, I had a 90 day cooling off period between allowed visits and was never allowed to rack up more than 6 months of UK time in a 12 month period.  I think it’s mostly the same in the other direction.

My best advice at this point would be:

1. Shower.

2. Ask on UK-Yankee.com about your situation.  I know it’s for yanks in the UK but there’s a big section there for moving back to the states with your UK spouse and surely there’ll be some info there.  My concern is that an incident like this could jeopardize your spousal visa application or, at the very least, your ability to visit the US in the meantime.

I am sorry, though.  Getting bounced is a huge fear of mine, even now, and I cannot imagine how crappy this situation is for you.  <3

Hey hey health care

Pretty bored with people acting like I left America for political reasons and not because I fell in love and it made better sense financially in a personal sense to live in the UK.

Also pretty bored with explaining and re-explaining to people that I’m still an American citizen, I might still decide to live there at any point in time, and that I do have a vested interest in what happens there.  Not only could it directly affect me, it DOES directly affect most of my friends, all of my family and my possible future children, who will ALSO be American citizens by birthright.

And then people wonder why I left.

I miss British TV

jamierwatson:

Mostly because it reminds me when certain holidays are.

Did you know its Mothers day in under two weeks?

I know, again.

So whilst I live in France I’ll have to find and send cards from Amsterdam, do they celebrate it there?

Oh my life. Bothersome.

Did you know that (British) Mothering Sunday and (American) Mother’s Day are in totally different months?  I have to remember to buy a card here now to send to my American mom in May, or I won’t be able to get one when the time comes.
